Goose Pond Colony Resort, a municipally owned resort and golf facility, announced last week that it will undergo a name change after its Board of Directors voted to simplify its identity.

Formally known as Goose Pond Colony, the official name will now be Goose Pond Colony Resort. Additionally, Goose Pond’s Colony Golf Course will change its name to the Lake Course. “The change was made in order to eliminate confusion between Goose Pond Colony as a whole and our Colony Golf Course as well as to rebrand our other golf course, The Plantation Course, and enhance its playability,” says General Manager Lyle Sosebee. “By renaming the Colony Course to the Lake Course and establishing Goose Pond Colony as Goose Pond Colony Resort, we feel that this will differentiate our facilities and better describe the amenities available to our guests and the community.” The name change comes with numerous renovations happening at Goose Pond Colony Resort in the next year, which include a $2.5 million marina expansion plan currently in the works. Goose Pond Colony Resort strives to continuously invest back into the facility and has devoted more than $2 million since 2006 including a large-scale investment of $130,000 allocated for the recently completed green renovations on Goose Pond’s Plantation Course, as well as $26,000 representing improvements to the Golf Pro Shop and $400,000 for renovations of all of Goose Pond Colony Resort’s lakefront cabins.
